Tutoring.

From Primary to PGCE level.

“My son’s confidence in Maths grew within just a few weeks. He became the most improved pupil of his class”
Mandy S.

Primary School

I have developed ways to help pupils with their basic numeracy skills and know ways to make it more fun and visual. The basic numeracy skills need to be well developed to give a child confidence to progress in Maths. Sometimes help with problem solving can boost confidence too.

On the other side of the spectrum are children who are gifted in Maths and they need to be challenged with their maths to keep them interested. I have developed lessons at secondary school level that these children can take into school and do in their own classroom with answers for themselves and their teachers to mark their work.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss the specific need of your child. I have had very good results with dyslexic and dyscalculic children too.

Secondary School

My training has been in Secondary schools and I have taught in secondary schools for over two years. After that I worked in College and had pupils who had to resit their exams.

From this experience I have developed a great eye for the misconceptions children develop in Maths and how to confront these misunderstandings and eliminate them. After making them focus on the right procedure it is time to make them retain this procedure. With 5 years of experience in getting people through exams I have plenty of ways to make sure they remember the correct way.

Tips and help for revision for tests and GCSE’s are available to any of my students.

College

Are you in college and have to resit your GCSE’s or are doing an apprenticeship and need to do a Functional Skills exam (Level 1 or 2) and need some extra help?

Or are you an adult and are (thinking of) changing careers and need to do one of the above exams as part of your training?

I have experience with all the above scenario’s and tutor dyscalculic adults who were written off at school years ago, to learn and enjoy maths. My results in college were always above average because I was able to build a relationship with the pupils and managed to get them to retain the knowledge they needed.

Every level comes with its own challenges and I will be able to guide you past all the obstacles.

A-level/PGCE

I am trained to teach Maths up until A Level. My strengths are in pure maths and decision making but I don’t shy away from Mechanics or Statistics.

I have an extensive base of lesson material and experience in teaching which I happily share with any of the PGCE students. I am also happy to support you one to one when you are doing your teacher training.
